Coronado’s Public Pianos - 2018 “Sit a Spell and Play a Tune”

CORONADO, CA (May 18, 2018) -- “Sit a Spell and Play a Tune” is an interactive artistic and musical public art program of the City’s Cultural Arts Commission that places three brightly wrapped pianos ready to be played at outdoor locations around Coronado.

Now in its second year, the program has expanded to include three pianos, up from one, and actively involves the community. The pianos, donated by residents, are wrapped in artwork by local artists Jody Esquer, Tina Christiansen and Karrie Jackson. Businesses and organizations adjacent to the pianos volunteer to open and close the pianos daily. They can be played from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The pianos provide access to musical opportunity, foster creativity, and build a sense of community among the public and, in the process, raise awareness for public art and music initiatives. The following is the schedule of the public piano concerts to unveil the 2018 Pianos:

Tuesday, May 22 – Noon
Adella Plaza (Corner of Adella and Orange Avenue)

Wednesday, May 23 – 11 a.m.
Coronado Rotary Plaza (Park Place and Orange Avenue)

Sunday, May 27, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Coronado Ferry Landing (B Avenue and First Street)
