Coronavirus FAQs – Facilities are open by reservation only.

Overview

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Monday, July 13, that due to the continued rise of COVID-19 cases around the state, fitness centers, places of worship, hair salons and barbershops, among other businesses, must be closed again. The closures began July 15 and included the Community Center's fitness room per San Diego County health officials.

Recreation and Golf Services is currently operating the Aquatics Center, Club Room and Boathouse, Coronado Golf Course, Coronado Tennis Center, Coronado Skatepark and summer programs. Patrons must make a reservation to use a facility. Recreation staff is available to take reservations over the phone for lap swim. Registration for summer programming is available and open to everyone.

Cash is not accepted for payment at Recreation and Golf Services facilities at this time. Please contact Recreation and Golf Services for information on how to add a credit card to an account or add a credit amount for spending at facilities at (619) 522-7342. A completed waiver must be on file for all participants. Please, note this is a new waiver and is required even if patrons have signed a waiver at one of our facilities previously. The new waiver is available digitally within the registration program PerfectMind and is valid for one year from date of signing.

The following Recreation facilities remain closed:

  • Coronado Community Center

  • John D. Spreckels Center and Bowling Green (the lawn bowling green is open for play through the Coronado Lawn Bowling Club) 

Recreation and Golf Services encourages patrons to continue checking in with Recreation via the website and social media outlets. The website is www.coronado.ca.us/recreation, the Facebook page is @putsomeplayinyourday or www.facebook.com/putsomeplayinyourday and Instagram is @recreate_coronado.

FAQs

What is happening with privately booked special events?

  • The City will now accept permit applications parks and beaches. 

  • Clients will have the option to cancel their event and receive a full refund free of any cancellation charges. Recreation anticipates refunds may take 4 – 6 weeks to reach patrons.

  • Clients have the option to postpone their special event. Facility rental clients should contact the rentals staff at (619) 522-2641 to discuss options on how to proceed.

  • Park and beach permit Clients should contact the Park and Beach staff at (619) 522-2468 to discuss options on how to proceed.

How does this affect annual City events?

  • There are no Recreation events currently scheduled. 

What about summer camp?

  • Independent contractors are providing summer programs, they have submitted safety protocols and sanitation plans.

  • The global health crisis has caused the cancellation of many traditional recreational offerings such as, Camp Coronado, Pre-Kinder Camp, Aquatics Camp and Swim Lessons.

  • Summer camps and classes will be limited to 10 participants each.

  • The Summer 2020 E-Brochure is posted online.

When is registration?

  • The fall 2020 camp offerings are available online at www.coronado.ca.us/register through patrons' registration accounts.

  • Fall Recreation registration is open Tuesday, September 8, at 8 a.m. for residents, online only. 

  • Fall Recreation registration opens for everyone online and by phone on Monday, September 14, at 8 a.m.

When will brochures be delivered?

  • Due to the global health crisis and the potential necessity to cancel programs, the publication of physical brochures is suspended indefinitely.

  • Display of the E-brochure will be online at www.coronado.ca.us/register. 

Which Recreation facilities are open?

  • Open Recreation facilities require a reservation for use.

  • The Club Room & Boathouse

    • Thursdays-Sundays, 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

    • To make a reservation call (619) 522-2655.

    • Parking in the facility lot is by permit only.

    • Payments must be made via credit card, cash is not accepted at this time.

  • The Coronado Golf Course

    • To reserve a tee time call (619) 522-6590.

  • The Coronado Skatepark

    • To make a reservation call (619) 708-8341.

    • It is currently free to skate; fees waived for the time being.

    • The Coronado Skatepark will observe new fall hours and will require a fee for use of the facility. The summer hours of the Skatepark are 2:30 –  6:30 p.m. Monday – Friday and 12:30 - 6:30 p.m.  Saturday - Sunday. The skate / scoot fee is $5 for a one hour reservation. Advance reservations are still required.

    • The rental fee for any equipment is $5.

    • Adult participants and the parents/guardians of minor participants must establish an account with the Recreation and Golf Services Department and complete the waiver before using the Skatepark facility.

  • The Coronado Tennis Center

    • To make a reservation for any Coronado tennis courts, the ball machine, pickleball, and professional instruction call (619) 522-2650.

    • The Coronado Cays Tennis Courts are open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Reservations taken through the Coronado Tennis Center (619) 522-2650.

    • Court five of the Coronado Cays Tennis Courts is reserved for pickleball play only.

    • Payments must be made via credit card, cash is not accepted at this time.

    • Library Tennis Courts are open for Tennis Professional instruction only Mondays - Sundays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    • Coronado Tennis Center courts and scheduling office is open Monday - Sunday, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 2:30 - 6:30 p.m. The courts and office is closed 12 - 2:30 p.m. 

  • The Aquatics Center

    • Currently hours are Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 12 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. 

    • Reservations can be made by calling (619) 522-7342.

    • The facility’s competition pool is open for lap swim only. The recreation pool is open for water exercise and lap swim.

      •  Priority for use of the recreation pool will be for water exercisers; however, lap swimmers will not be excluded from using the recreation pool.
    • Family swim is not available.

    • Patrons will be required to purchase an annual, monthly or punch pass via credit card. Cash is currently not accepted. 

What Recreation facilities are closed?
  • The Coronado Community Center

    • The facility’s fitness center is closed due to the latest directives from Governor Newsom.   

    • The facility’s gymnasium is currently in use for summer programs only. It is not open to the public.

    • Patrons will be required to purchase an annual, monthly or punch pass via credit card. Cash is currently not accepted.

  • The John D. Spreckels Center

What will happen to my Recreation pass(es)?

  • Memberships extended through the time of the closures.

I have always paid with cash as a drop in. Will you still take cash payments?

  • No, due to the risk of spreading the virus when transferring items and a lack of staff to process the type of payment.

  • All payments must be paid by credit card.
