Children's Library
 
The Children's Library has a wide variety of books and other materials suitable for children of all ages. Picture books, easy readers, juvenile fiction and non fiction are readily available. The Library also carries films, both fiction and non-fiction, talking books on CD, magazines, music CDs, and paperbacks. Puppets and puzzles are available for use in the Library.
 
The entry to the Children's Library is graced with a unique Wizard of Oz glass panel portal. The Children's Library also features a large diorama case with changing exhibits, a working model railroad, and an enclosed doll house. The Ruby Room provides a venue for story hours, crafts, and other special children's activities.

Children's Programs

Story Hours are held on Tuesdays and Fridays in the Ruby Room
 
Toddlers 10:10 a.m. for infants through 2 ½ or 3 years old
  • A 20 minute session for our youngest library users. Caregivers and toddlers sing, play, and read stories geared for the very young set.
Pre-Schoolers 10:45 a.m. for children 3 to 6 years old
  • A 30 minute session of songs, finger plays, puppets and a variety of stories chosen for the older pre-school crowd.

Spanish Song and Story Time for all ages, Wednesday mornings at 11:30 a.m.

  • A 20 to 30 minute session of songs and a variety of stories chosen for both the Spanish speaker and Spanish learner.
Children's craft programs are held on Tuesdays at 3 p.m. several times a month in the Ruby Room.  
Check the library calendar for dates and projects. Crafts include holiday celebrations, puppetry and story themed projects
 
Junior Volunteers Club
The Junior Volunteers meet each Thursday at 3:15 p.m. during the school year. The members put on plays for younger kids and help with children's programs. In the summer, the Junior Volunteers run the reading club booth for the younger kids, help with Harry Potter day and other Summer Reading Club activities. Junior Volunteers must have finished the 5th grade to join. Applications to join the Junior Volunteers are available at the Children's and Teen reference desks.
 
Annual Programs
Several annual programs are held all through the year. They include plays by the Junior Volunteers, Pooh Day, the Mother Daughter Tea, Father and Son Huck Finn Day, the Halloween Party, the Kid's New Years Party and many others. Check the library calendar for dates.
 
Summer Reading Club
The Summer Reading Club in the Children's Library is for all children through the 5th grade. (Students who have completed the 5th grade may join the Teen Reading Club). Prizes are awarded to all kids for books read, those who can read and those who are read to. Children come to the library to make oral reports on their books and receive incentives.
 
Summer Programs
Twice weekly during the summer reading club a program is offered for children at the library. Programs include puppet shows, animal shows, magic, games, movies, and crafts. The summer newsletter is produced in May and details all the programs scheduled for the summer.
