Take streaming from home to the next level by joining Coronado Public Library’s convenient family STREAM challenge, inspired by Frank L. Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” After all, the author regarded Coronado as his happy place, and there is no place like home. Leisurely rediscover why history equates this iconic giant of classic literature to the “Harry Potter” of its day.


STREAM stands for science, technology, reading/writing, engineering, art, and math. What does this particular STREAM challenge entail? Completing each of the STREAM components described below at your convenience.


S-cience (Document the outdoor natural elements that remind you most of Coronado)

T-echnology (post a STREAM participation pic to #holedupreading or #coronadopubliclibrary)

R-ead the book and Write a poem inspired by the book and Coronado or discuss the book on the library's Facebook page. 

E-ngineer (your own Tin Man with materials from home)

A-rt contest (Paint, sketch or draw your own Oz)

M-ath (calculate how long it would take a Coronado resident to leisurely bike from the farthest place you have lived and your Coronado home at a rate of 8 mph)

Enrollment is not required. Families should participate for fun, at their leisure. “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” is available to the public electronically! Access by Clicking Here.

Find great books to read and fun stuff to do in the Children’s area of the Coronado Public Library.

Discover a wide variety of books and other materials suitable for children of all ages. Picture books, early readers, juvenile fiction and nonfiction are available. The Library also has movies, both fiction and non-fiction, audio-books on CD, magazines, and music CDs. Children and caretakers are invited to learn and experience together with board games, puppets and puzzles available for use in the Library. 
The entry to the Children's Library is marked with a unique Wizard of Oz glass panel portal. The Children's Library also features a large diorama case with changing exhibits, a working model railroad, and a doll house. The Ruby Room hosts story hours, science programs, art projects, and other children's activities to stimulate lifelong learning.
