Coronado Begins Recruitment Efforts for New City Manager

CORONADO, CA (April 28, 2021)Coronado is actively seeking qualified applicants to serve as City Manager. The current City Manager, Blair King, has accepted a similar position in Washington state. His last day is April 29.

The City Council has engaged Ralph Andersen & Associates out of Rocklin, California, to provide broad and comprehensive executive recruitment services. Former Anaheim City Manager David Morgan is the project director and has begun conducting outreach and recruitment. Morgan will provide a pre-qualified list of candidates to the Council for consideration. The process may take up to four months.

The position is the administrative head of the municipal government under the Council’s direction and is responsible for personnel, budget and procurement and all City operations. The City Manager’s Office oversees nine City departments, including full-service Police and Fire departments. The City Manager also maintains communication among the organization, the Council and community, and is responsible for the coordination and permitting of special events.

The City Manager coordinates interagency activities and special projects with the San Diego Unified Port District, Coronado Unified School District, San Diego Association of Governments, Metropolitan Transit System, San Diego County, the California Department of Transportation, U.S. Navy, California Coastal Commission, among other agencies and all cities in the region.

The office also is responsible for maintaining communication and relationships with local organizations such as Coronado MainStreet, Coronado Chamber of Commerce, Coronado Historical Association, Homeowners Associations, and Coronado Tourism Improvement District.
