Upcoming Events

Please join us for these Community READ programs scheduled to take place throughout the month of February. All events are virtual and some require registration. Click on the dates below or visit our event calendar for further details and to sign up. 

  • Panel discussion covering race and the news. The panelists will be Laura Castaneda of the San Diego Union Tribune; LaMonica Peters of CBS8; and Max Rivlin-Nadler of KPBS. Moderated by Dr. Dean Nelson, Director of the Journalism Program at Point Loma Nazarene University. 
    Thursday, February 4 from 11am-12pm
  • Discussion on how to talk to your kids about racism, by UCSD Associate Clinical Professor, Dr. Katherine Nguyen-Williams, and SDSU Associate Director of Psychology Undergraduate Advising & Programs, Dr. Katherine Turner.  
    Tuesday, February 16 from 6:30pm-7:30pm
  • Panel discussion about creating inclusive communities. The panelists will be Genevieve Jones-Wright of Community Advocates for Just and Moral Governance (MoGo); Shawn McClondon of the Sister Cities Project; Supervisor, Nora Vargas, of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors; and Dr. David Miller, Professor of History at the University of San Diego. Moderated by Dr. Carl Luna of the Institute for Civil Civic Engagement.

  • Screening and discussion of award winning PBS documentary, Whose Streets, regarding the Ferguson uprising following the death of unarmed teenager, Michael Brown.

  • Talk by Rafael Lopez, illustrator of the Children's 2021 Coronado Community READ title, The Day You Begin, by Jacqueline Woodson.
