The City hosted a “pit stop” in town this week as part of Bike to Work Day events around the county. There were free T-shirts and other giveaways, refreshments and familiar faces, including Police Chief Chuck Kaye. The pit stop, as in years past, was under a pop-up tent by the Community Center on bike to work day morning, this year on May 19. There were two other stops in Coronado, near the entrance to Naval Air Station North Island and at the Coronado Island Marriott. The City is always proud to be part of Bike to Work Day events to encourage bicycling. As part of Bike Month this month, the City produced a video celebrating the long and unique relationship with Coronado and the bicycle, which debuted last week at a screening and discussion event at the Coronado Historical Association. The film, “Along for the Ride: A Century of Biking in Coronado,” was sponsored by a Go-By-Bike grant from the San Diego Association of Governments. The film will screen all summer on Coronado TV and may be viewed on the City’s YouTube channel.
