Events Planned for National Preservation Month

Preservation Symposium

The City Council this week proclaimed May as Historic Preservation Month. The Council presented a plaque to a property owner whose home was historically designated in 2021 and called attention to four others similarly honored but who could not attend. Due to the pandemic, no Council presentation was held in 2021. Coronado MainStreet, the Coronado Historical Association, and the City will mark Preservation Month with various events. On Thursday, May 12, a free Preservation Symposium will be held virtually at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom and Facebook Live. The event has filled up and no more reservations are being accepted for the live event. However, you may still view the symposium via Zoom. See the link below. California's Historic Preservation Officer Julianne Polanco will introduce this year's presenting speaker, Shannon Lauchner Pries, a historian from the Office of Historic Preservation, who will share the state’s historic preservation initiatives and discuss historic districts. Coronado Associate Planner Tricia Olsen will discuss how to designate a home a historic resource. The Coronado Historical Association 's popular Historic Home Tour on Mother’s Day has sold out.
