- Cal-Am Water is asking all customers to contact our Customer Service Center at 888-237-1333 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.
- Cal-Am Water’s call handlers will gather Name, Address, Email and Phone number of customers who want to file a claim. They will also advise customers that we will provide their information to their Cal-Am insurance provider and let them know the following:
- They have reported this matter to their insurance company - Travelers. The Claim number is FTN0083. Travelers will handle submitted claims in their Strategic Claims Group. An adjuster will then reach out to each claimant.
- Cal-Am Water is asking everyone to be patient due to the nature of this matter, and the number of potential folks involved. Cal-Am is also suggesting everyone also report this to their own insurance company for immediate service.
08/26/23 5:30 pm California American Water Company (Cal-Am) reports it has lifted a boil water advisory for affected areas in South County Saturday, which includes Coronado residents south of Fidder's Cove. The boil water advisory was put into effect Aug. 24, 2023 due to E. coli contamination in the drinking water. After extensive water testing, Cal Am and the State Water Resources Control Board's Division of Drinking Water (DDW) determined the water is now safe to drink. What to do after the Boil Water Notice is Lifted
Residents are advised to "flush" their water following the lifting of a boil order in order to clear plumbing of potentially contaminated water. Flushing your household and building water lines includes interior and exterior faucets; showers; water and ice dispensers; water treatment units, etc. Please use the following guidance:
- Cold Water Faucets: Run tap water until the water feels cold, one minute or more, before drinking, brushing teeth, or using for food preparation. If you have a single-lever faucet, set it to run the cold water first.
- Hot Water Faucets: To clear hot-water pipes and water heater of untreated water, flush the hot water line for a minimum of 15 minutes for a typical household 40-gallon hot-water tank, 30 minutes for an 80- gallon hot water tank or larger. Hot water is then safe to use for washing hands, and for hand washing of dishes, pots and pans, etc. Never use water from the "hot" faucet for drinking, cooking, or other internal consumption purposes.
- Dishwashers: After flushing hot water pipes and water heater, run dishwasher empty one time. Humidifiers: Discard any water used in humidifiers,
- Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), oral, medical, or health care devices, and rinse the device with clean water.
- Food and Baby Formula: Discard baby formula and other foods prepared with water on the day or days of the boil order. If unsure of the dates, contact www.amwater.com
- Refrigerator Water-Dispensing Machine: Water dispensers from refrigerators should be flushed by at least one quart of water. If unsure of your dispenser's capacity, refer to manufacturer specifications. Ice Cubes: Automatic ice dispensers should be emptied of ice made during the boil water order and run through a 24-hour cycle, discarding the ice to assure purging of the icemaker water supply line.
- For medical, dental, hotels, and food-service establishments, the County of San Diego County Environmental Health & Quality will notify the establishments directly.
- The County is requesting that any businesses affected by Cal-Am’s boil water advisory to complete a voluntary Boil Water Advisory Economic Impact Survey. The information collected will be used to determine if the County should attempt to seek state and/or federal assistance. The form is informational only, completing the survey form does not guarantee that you will be eligible or will receive assistance, and it is also not a substitution for submitting a claim with California American Water Company (Cal-Am) or your insurance company. The deadline for completing the survey is Sept. 15. County Public Health continues to monitor for health-related issues and asks anyone experiencing gastrointestinal issues or any other symptoms to contact their healthcare provider.
