Now is the time to prepare for Tropical Storm Hilary. Be aware of the potential hazards the storm will create when it arrives in San Diego County this weekend. Expect high winds, heavy rainfall, and possible flash flooding. The City is prepared and closely monitoring all weather changes in the upcoming days.
PLEASE BE AWARE: The City has run out of sandbags. There is a shortage of sandbags across the County. An alternative is to use bags of compost or trash bags filled with 2/3 full of soil or sand.

Storm Preparedness Tips:
- Make sure you are following the City’s social media channels above
- Sign up for Alert San Diego, the County’s emergency alert system and Nixle.com to receive important messages from our Public Safety Services
- Store enough food, water and medicines to last for 72 hours
- Prepare for high winds by removing or securing all outdoor furniture
- During flooding, follow these steps:
- Avoid driving and walking through flood waters
- Move immediately to higher ground in the event of flash flooding
Remember to
- Keep flashlights available in case of power outage. Check the SDG&E outage map.If you see a fallen power line, call SDG&E from a safe location at 800-611-7343
- Have all electronics fully charged in the event the high winds cause a power outage: charge batteries for all essential items. Including cell phones, external chargers and power tools.
- Fill your car with gas and make sure your kitchen is stocked.
- Drive carefully on the roads. Please slow down and allow yourself more time than normal to arrive at your destination. Do not travel if possible.
