Tidelands Park monument entrance sign

Landscaping improvements by the Port of San Diego are underway at Tidelands Park. The park improvements are taking place within the turning circle, parking islands, and park entrance to Tidelands Park. The existing plants are approximately 25 years old and dying due to irrigation system failures. The landscaping renovations include the removal and replacement of existing landscaping and the removal of old irrigation and the installation of a new drip irrigation system to manage the proposed landscaping improvements.

The Tidelands Park landscaping renovations include:

  • Replace existing plants (mostly rhaphiolepis shrubs) 25+ years and dying.
  • Add a variety of slow growing, water wise plants with manageable and appropriate density.
  • Add colors, textures, and varying heights.
  • Add new trees to increase species and color diversity.
  • Install drip irrigation; coupled with CalSense smart controllers and automated notifications to manage water usage.

Tidelands Park is under the Port of San Diego jurisdiction and is located at 2000 Mullinex Drive. The landscaping renovations are being conducted by a Port of San Diego contractor.

Tidelands Park offers a small beach, recreational fields, picnic areas and plenty of open space for a variety of outdoor activities. In addition, the park includes a scenic bike path that extends from the Silver Strand to the Old Ferry Landing, providing visitors pristine views of San Diego's waterfront. Its playground is recognized as a model of inclusive design for people with disabilities.
