[ARCHIVED] Annual Street Maintenance Repaving Project Set to Begin

traffic cones on road

After some weather-related delays, the City’s annual Street Preventive Maintenance project is now underway. Weather permitting, several Coronado streets will be repaved with a slurry seal starting on April 10. The prep work has already begun and includes sealing the cracks and repairing the asphalt pavement. Each year, City crews apply a slurry seal to a portion — one seventh -- of Coronado’s public streets to refresh the existing asphalt surfaces. The slurry seal maintenance program extends the life of the existing street surfaces and also helps minimize costly repairs later on, as the asphalt pavement degrades.

The roadwork includes Glorietta Boulevard and the adjoining nearby streets, south of Pomona Avenue to Fourth Street.  In addition to the roadways, the Bayshore Bikeway between the Coronado Yacht Club and Fiddlers Cove, will also receive a slurry seal.

Notifications will be delivered by the City's contractor, American Asphalt South, to residents along affected streets identifying the exact date of individual road closures approximately five days ahead of time.  About two weeks after the slurry seal is applied, striping and pavement markings will be re-installed. Motorists are asked to use caution when driving through the work zones and to be aware of the no-parking signs along the scheduled streets.

The City of Coronado is committed to providing a well-maintained road system for the community and each year, City contracted crews apply a slurry seal to a portion - one seventh - of Coronado’s public streets to refresh the existing asphalt surfaces. The slurry seal maintenance program extends the life of the city's existing street surfaces and also helps minimize costly repairs later on, as the asphalt pavement degrades.

The contractor will also take steps to control traffic while the street improvements are underway. The City appreciates the community's patience during this important street maintenance project.
