The City of Coronado has a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals to give back to their community. Please view this page to learn more about each area of need and the City department it is associated with.
Recreation Department
The Recreation Department has much to offer for children, adults, and seniors. One such opportunity is to become a volunteer driver for the Coronado Seniors Out and About program that provides rides to seniors for a nominal fee. The Recreation Department is also looking for volunteers to help with new programs and activities at the recently opened John D. Spreckels Center and Bowling Green.

Boards, Commissions & Committees
The City of Coronado welcomes, promotes, and encourages the participation of citizens in the decision-making process. Each board, commission, and the committee has various duties, obligations, and powers delegated to it by the City Council and/or State law and typically meets once per month. There are opportunities in all aspects of local government including the following: planning, design review, transportation, bicycling, tourism, golf, historic designation, library, parks and recreation, public art, and trees.
Fire Department
The Coronado Fire Department oversees the volunteer Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program that trains citizens to prepare for and respond safely to disasters. The goal is to better prepare the community for disasters and to help serve neighborhoods when emergency services are overwhelmed.

Police Department
The Coronado Police Department oversees two programs in need of volunteers including the Senior Volunteer Program (PDF) and the Police Officer Reserves Program (PDF). Senior Volunteers patrol the City in pairs of two and provide routine services to the Police Department, such as home checks and special event traffic control, allowing Police Officers to handle more pressing issues. Police Reserve Officers, are academy trained Police Officers, that augment the department's sworn Police Officers by assisting with routine patrol functions, special events, and traffic and beach patrols.

Library
The Library seeks volunteers with a variety of skills, interests and abilities to work with staff devoted to enriching the lives of others. The volunteer opportunities include helping with some of the following tasks: materials processing, newspaper indexing, shelf reading, arranging newspapers, computer lab assistance, Spreckels Room assistance, assisting with shut-ins, audio visual processing and maintenance, children's special programs and special projects.
