Traffic is an important issue in the City of Coronado and traffic engineering for the City is coordinated by the Public Services and Engineering Department with input from the Police Department as well as Caltrans.
The Commission is charged with implementing the Active Transportation Master Plan, developing a traffic calming plan, assisting City staff in researching, planning, and implementing complete streets, sustainable streets, and vision zero concepts, and integrating emerging technologies, such as autonomous and electric vehicles, into the City's transportation network.
The Traffic Operations Committee (TOC) considers requests for traffic control devices, regulatory signs, speed limits, parking restrictions, traffic circulation changes, and street modifications.
The City of Coronado has established policies regarding the use of many types of right-of-way control devices, traffic calming measures, and curb markings.
