Mission
The mission of the Public Services and Engineering Department is to maintain the City’s physical infrastructure and provide the highest level of cost-effective maintenance for the City’s beaches, facilities, parks, sanitary sewer and storm drain systems, and rights of way, while protecting the public’s health and safety. The department also provides engineering management, including planning, design, construction, and repair of the City’s buildings, parks, streets, and utility systems.
Responsibilities
The Public Services and Engineering Department is responsible for the management of a wide range of services and programs including:
- Automotive fleet management and maintenance
- Commercial area sidewalk cleaning
- Facilities maintenance
- City buildings and other property
- Household hazardous waste collection
- Maps and records of survey
- NPDES Management (over-irrigation, project review, residential and commercial construction)
- Parks and beach maintenance
- Pavement maintenance
- Project development (provide planning and construction management for major Capital Improvement Projects)
- Right-of-way and encroachment permits
- Stormwater operations
- Street sweeping
- Street trees
- Traffic engineering (provide objective studies of all traffic safety issues)
