Chief Jon Froomin joined the Coronado Police Department as their 25th Police Chief on May 13, 2013. Previously, he was a member of the Foster City Police Department since 1983 when he became the Department's first Police Explorer Captain. In 1986, he became a part-time Community Service Officer, primarily responsible for parking enforcement. On July 8, 1988 Chief Froomin was hired as a police officer. He graduated from the Santa Rosa Junior College Police Academy. As an officer he served in Patrol, as a motorcycle officer, and detective. In January 1997, he was promoted to corporal where he served as a field training officer and acting sergeant. On November 11, 1998, Chief Froomin was promoted to sergeant and served as a Patrol supervisor until being promoted to the rank of lieutenant on July 14, 2000. As a lieutenant, he worked in Patrol, training, and administration. He managed the field training program, in-service training, and the Department budget preparation. He was promoted to Captain on July 1, 2004. As Captain he had the opportunity to command both the Administrative and Patrol Divisions. Chief Froomin graduated from POST Command College in 2009.
Jon earned his Bachelors degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco. Jon is a Past President of the Foster City Lions Club and is an active volunteer with Special Olympics.
Chief Froomin has been married to his wife Dana since 1991 and they have three children.
