NOTICE OF INTENT TO

ADOPT A NEGATIVE DECLARATION

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the public is invited to comment on a Draft Negative Declaration of Environmental Impact that has been prepared for the following project:

IS 2013-06 City of Coronado: The Coronado Senior Activity Center Project, addressed as 1019 Seventh Street, involves the demolition of the existing Senior Center, containing approximately 3,775 square feet, and construction of a new Senior Activity Center, containing approximately 8,660 square feet.  The existing structure does not meet current building and accessibility codes, and does not meet the programs and services desired by the community due to facility limitations.  The new building will contain a multi-purpose room; expanded kitchen and lounge areas; a new activity and Lawn Bowling Club room; and office, storage, and equipment space.  New restrooms and general circulation/support areas will also be provided to meet minimum accessibility and building code standards.

A Negative Declaration is a statement by the City that no additional environmental analysis is necessary for the project because the project is not expected to have a significant effect on the environment.  A Negative Declaration is based upon an "Initial Study" of the expected environmental impacts of the project.  The draft Negative Declaration, Initial Study, and supporting documents may be reviewed at the Department of Community Development, Coronado City Hall, 1825 Strand Way, at the Coronado Library at 640 Orange Avenue, Coronado CA 92118, or on the City’s website at www.coronado.ca.us

The public review and comment period for the proposed Negative Declaration will begin July 23, 2014, as published in the Coronado Eagle & Journal, and shall run until August 13, 2014.  Written comments are encouraged to be submitted to the Department of Community Development at the above address within the public review and comment period.  Future public hearings on the project will be held by the Design Review Commission, Historic Resource Commission, Planning Commission, and City Council.  Public notices will be provided when these future public hearings are scheduled.

The project is not a designated hazardous waste facility, hazardous waste property or hazardous waste disposal site as specified under Section 65962.5 of the Government Code.

The purpose of the review period is to allow the public to comment upon the expected environmental impact of the project, the adequacy of the Initial Study, and Draft Negative Declaration.  For further information, contact William Cecil, Capital Projects Manager, (619) 522-7314 or Ann McCaull, Senior Planner at (619) 522-7326.
