Permit Parking Zone Boundary Reduction on City Council Agenda

The Coronado City Council is scheduled to conduct a public hearing at its regularly scheduled meeting April 15 to get community input before deciding what, if any, action it will take regarding the boundaries for the Local Coastal Program Decal Parking Permit Zone located in the northwest quadrant of the Village.

  • The City received a request from a member of the community to research the continuing need for the permit parking zone.
  • The zone was established about 23 years ago due to Navy base personnel parking in the neighborhoods because they were barred from parking on the base.
  • The Navy has increased parking on base property outside of the security gate to better accommodate those barred from driving on base.
  • The Navy has modified its base entry procedures, reducing the number of base employees needing to park off base.
  • Permit parking violation data was analyzed to determine the current extent of the issue before making a recommendation to the Council.
  • The staff report recommends reducing the permit parking zone to include only the 100-400 blocks of Alameda Boulevard and J Avenue.

A staff report will be available for review on the City's website after 2 p.m. today. The City Council meeting begins at 4 p.m. and will be held at City Hall, 1825 Strand Way.
