City Logos, Seals Are Copyrighted Property

CORONADO, Calif. (May 30, 2013) - The City of Coronado recently sent a cease and desist letter to a San Diego County business warning of copyright and trademark infringement and demanding the company stop using the City's official logo for commercial purposes. The use of the City's logos and seals is not often authorized outside of official City business.

This is a good time to let the community know that all City logos and seals belong to the City of Coronado and may not be used for commercial purposes. Images that appear on City letterhead, press releases and other official documents may only be viewed or downloaded on materials issued by the City and/or found on our website for your own personal purposes.

When contacted, the San Diego business immediately complied with the City's cease and desist letter. However, if you see a City of Coronado logo or seal on any commercial flyer, letter or promotion, we ask that you contact us. You also should be suspicious of any use of a City logo or seal on any commercial or private promotion that does not appear to have the official endorsement of the City of Coronado.

Remember, City of Coronado logos and seals are trademarks and may not be used by others unless a license for its use is granted in writing and duly executed by an authorized City representative. The City will take action in cases where no approval was granted.

Questions regarding the City of Coronado's copyright of intellectual property or for permission to use, reproduce or distribute materials issued by the City of Coronado can be made by contacting the City of Coronado c/o City Manager's Office in writing at 1825 Strand Way, Coronado, CA, 92118 or via email at jzuniga@coronado.ca.us.
