Coronado, County Answer FEMA Flood Map Questions

Coronado, CA (August 16, 2012) - The City of Coronado has put together a brochure that answers some questions raised by property owners who have received letters from their lenders requiring them to buy flood insurance.

San Diego County officials also have put together a detailed flyer about recently released Flood Insurance Rate Maps by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help property owners meet the requirements of FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program and let them know what to do if they believe they do not require flood insurance.

The City of Coronado is working with FEMA to correct errors believed to have been mistakenly included in a recent map revision. However, FEMA has indicted that some Coronado Cays homes may be close enough to a Special Flood Hazard Area that some lenders may still require owners to purchase a flood insurance policy even after the City's map is revised.
