In the quest to provide exceptional customer service, the Records Divison is also responsible for providing a variety of other police services:
Local Records Check Information
A local background records check can be completed for $6.00 payable by cash, check, credit card or money order at the time you submit the Police Department Background Records Request form. This report takes three to five business days to complete and can be notarized when desired for no additional charge. Please be prepared to present photo ID at the time you submit the Background Request Form.
Copies of Reports or Citations
To receive a copy of an incident, traffic collision, or crime report or a copy of a traffic citation, please submit your request in person, by mail, email, or over the telephone. A records request form is not mandatory but may be necessary if the record cannot be immediately produced for re-contacting or mailing purposes. If you are involved party to an incident there is no charge for a copy of the information.
Your request could take as long as ten days to complete however, most requests are completed sooner. The copy of your report will not be available the same day of the request. When you pick up your report, you may be required to state any involvement you have in the incident in order for our Records Section to comply with your request (Gov. Code § 6254 - 6255). Please note that not all reports requested are available for release. When a report is not releasable, we will inform you by mail of the reason. Arrest reports will not be released. A copy will be given to you or your attorney at your first court arraignment through the District Attorney's Office.
