BUSINESS LICENSE INFORMATION
A business license is a business tax paid to the City of Coronado in order to conduct business legally within the City limits. The purpose of the license is to generate revenue for the City of Coronado and to help provide police and fire protection, fire and crime prevention, and many other community services.
The issuance of a business license does not entitle the license holder to carry on any business which is otherwise prohibited. Depending on the type of business, it may also be necessary for you to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy, a Conditional Use Permit, Special Use permit, Home Occupation Permit, and/or any other City, State, or Federal approvals that apply to your type of business before your business may operate.
Listed below are links to the forms that need to be completed in order to obtain a City of Coronado Business License. These forms can be filled out online and printed for signature. Submit the originally signed forms to City Clerk's Office.

WHAT FORM DO I USE?
All Miscellaneous Gross Receipt and Licensed Contractor applicants need to complete Forms 1 and 2 below.
In addition, applicants doing business in the Commercial Zones in the City of Coronado must complete Form 4 and applicants who want to operate a home-based business in a Residential Zone in Coronado, must complete Form 3.
HOW MUCH DO I PAY?
Business License Tax is pro-rated depending on the quarter of the year the application is submitted. See the following schedules to determine the tax amount for your Business License:
MISCELLANEOUS GROSS RECEIPTS
The License Tax for all businesses, other than contractors, is based on the business's estimated annual gross receipts.

CONTRACTORS
If the business is licensed under the provisions of the State Contractors License Law, the Business License Tax amount is based on the following schedule. The contractor business license tax is in lieu of, not in addition to, the General Business License Tax. Contractors pay only the business license tax listed on this chart.
If you claim contractor status on your business license application, please attach proof of a valid Contractor's License from the California Sate Licensing Board.

FICTITIOUS BUSINESS NAME
California Law requires that every person who regularly transacts a business for profit in the County of San Diego under a fictitious name, must file a Fictitious Name Statement with the Recorder/County Clerk and publish it in a local publication. OPERATIONS PERMITS
Some business types need an Operations Permit in addition to a Business License. These types of businesses include, but are not limited to: Massage Technicians or Massage Establishments, Firearms Sales, Para-transit, Taxi, or Limousine Services, Sight-Seeing Businesses, Auto Rentals, Segway Rentals, Ice Cream Trucks, Curb Painters, Public Dances, Bingo Games, Amusement Centers, Compressed Natural Gas or Liquid Petroleum Gas Dispensing Businesses.
